"Contention" by Osker - PUNK WEEK '23 - Day 3 of 8
For Day 3, I thought I'd play a song off the good ol' Osker album, "Idle Will Kill." You know, the one I recorded a handful of songs on, and the one I was a drum tech for. But, "Contention" was not one of the songs I recorded on drums. This track features Ty Smith (Guttermouth) on the original drum tracks.
Osker recorded the entire album with their original drummer, Phil Drazic, but were unhappy with the takes, so they hired Ty to redo the record, and me to be the drum tech. Then, they weren't too excited by some of Ty's tracks, and let me have a stab at it. I ended up recording five songs (Tracks 7, 8, 12, 13, 14) and becoming their touring drummer for the next year until they disbanded.
This is perhaps one of the best punk albums of that era, full of all kinds of emotions, not just angst and frustration—although there is plenty of that too! My very good buddy, and Blindsided bandmate, Michelangelo Trujillo, produced this record and did a fine job of helping them develop the more mature sound needed for this album's material.
