Welcome to the Third-Annual PUNK WEEK event where YouTube drummers across the world participate in creating Punk Rock Drum Covers and posting them for a moshing, head-banging, anti-establishment week in January!
Day 6 features "I'm The One" by The Descendents, a song that came out during my graduating year of high school! It's old. I'm old. We're old. And a theme of The Descendents is one of never wanting to grow up and face real responsibilities. I shared that mentality for a long time, and even now there are things I am still childish about (like fart jokes).
But I must say that being a grown-up, being a father, is the best and most fulfilling life to live. Most of what punk rock stands for, I am totally against now that I am older and wiser. In fact, I wish I had made these more mature, grown-up decisions earlier in life actually.
So while I have no real philosophical connection with punk rock anymore, I still love the music and love playing along on the drums. I just wish punk would be as morally responsible as they are socially. I think there's room for both. In fact, Jesus Christ was the most anti-establishment, rebellious, punk rock figure in the history of the world. He was also the most moral person who ever lived. So there.
Please enjoy and tune in tomorrow for the last day of PUNKWEEK24!
