I'm throwin' it back to one of my all-time favorite drummers, Brad Wilk from Rage Against the Machine. "Wake Up" is from their self-titled debut album and was also featured on the soundtrack of one of my all-time favorite movies, "The Matrix."
What a time to be alive! When I was in Jazz band in High School, as well as all my punk bands at that time, all the drummers around me were so focused on learning the technical side of drums. Of course, every aspect of drumming is vitally important, but for me, groove is king. And Brad Wilk is a perfect example of letting the groove showcase your talent.
And from all the interviews I have seen of him, he seems like such a cool, down-to-earth guy. I've actually met Zach de la Rocha a couple of times, and he also was very humble and soft-spoken. I am completely at odds with their political beliefs, but really it doesn't matter, because musically, we all speak the same language. That's the beauty of music.
