So many things to unpack in this one!
For one: This is my daughter's current favorite song (it changes from day to day). She sings (or tries to, at least) and dances to it every time it comes on. Not sure if that's a good thing or bad, but she's having fun, so I guess that's what matters for now.
Also, this is the first cover to feature my brand new snare drum! I stumbled upon it at NAMM Show this year, sitting on a nice drumkit at the Revolution Drum booth:
It is a Cherry Hill Drums 5.875" x 14" Tiger Mahogany / Maple Segmented "Artisan Reserve" Snare with Solid Brushed Brass Hardware including 10 Lugs, Handmade Strainer and Butt, and DieCast Hoops. The Lugs and Strainer also feature yellow pearl inlays, and the finish is a 2k Matte Finish to match the hardware sheen. It came finely tuned with Remo Heads and Canopus Snare Wires. It is a thing of beauty, custom-made, and one-of-a-kind! And believe it or not, it sounds even better than it looks!
So "Doo Wop (That Thing)" is a perfect song to showcase this drum because I can go back to the basics of just a Kick, Snare, and Hi-Hat set up and play this entire track on just those three instruments!
Which is exactly what I did. No crash cymbals or ride, no tom fills, no-nonsense! Just straight up 4-minutes of solid grooving that I hope you will enjoy! Check it out:
