On February 2, 2018, I launched a new series called, "Friday Rewind," where I performed a cover of a song I either recorded and/or played live at some point in my drumming career. Every week for 25 weeks straight, I released a blast from the past. From totally obscure musical acts to some that a few of you might've actually heard.
The playlist predates this current website, so I thought I would repost these here so there's an easy way for viewers to check it out. I tried to release the videos in chronological order but some bands overlapped others, and when I started I wasn't exactly sure how I was going to execute the whole thing, so some of the videos have no particular order to them.
Welcome back to my review of "Friday Rewind," a series where I released a video each week chronicling my playing days as a working drummer. This week features the song, "Sex Machine" by The Butt Connectors (as made famous by James Brown).
I guess before I explain this video, I should tell everyone the meaning behind the band name. Well, when I moved to New York, I found a job in marketing at an industrial parts manufacturing and supply company called Cambridge Resources. They sold all sorts of uninteresting stuff and it was my job to try and make them interesting. Instead, my coworkers and I commiserated on how this was impossible. We found out that we all played instruments and formed a cover band. One of the products we sold were called Butt Connectors. It's an electrical product that can connect two spliced wires together...anyway, like I said, very boring.
We played at the company talent show, and then at the open mic at The Bitter End in Manhattan. We had such a good response that we were asked back again and played once more before I left for Philly. The following is one of the songs we played on stage. Hope you enjoy!
