DRUM COVER + KARAOKE: "Sentimental Favorite" by Owsley
I first discovered Owsley when he opened up for Fountains of Wayne at a show in Orange County, CA way back in 1999-2000. If I remember correctly, he came upon the stage with a cowboy shirt on and jeans. He had a guitar strapped to him and was checking the mic. I thought he was one of the roadies doing a soundcheck.
Then, the lights went down and he started playing, and I was blown away. Lesson: never judge a book by the cover.
I made sure to buy the album at his merch table and from there on I was a fan. It was one of the best-sounding albums I've ever heard and that still holds true today. Tragically, Owsley took his own life sometime later. I feel so fortunate to have been able to see him live, and I hope he is in a better place. Some people were just not meant for this world.
