It was a toss-up between "Cemetery Gates" and "Cowboys From Hell." I went with this one because of the groove factor on display by the late, great Vinnie Paul. To this day, his playing impresses me. He could shred and bang like no other, but he also brought a groove and feel that no one in the metal genre has been able to replicate. He is sorely missed in the drum world.
Being a more groove-type drummer, the decision was easy for me. But I still had to work on trying to match his style with my own. Some of the things he does are subtle but complicated and refined.
