WELCOME to NEW WAVE WEEK 2022 on KMKanDrum!
From Nov 7 to 14, I will be releasing one song a day of my favorite New Wave tunes from the 80s. Now, in no way is this list complete. There are tons of songs I wanted to cover. So I kept them to ones I loved, that I could play drums to as well as sing somewhat well. There were bands like Siouxsie & The Banshees or The B-52s that I wanted to cover, as well as New Order, OMD, The Cars...I mean I can go on and on. But these are just a small sample of New Wave songs and bands that helped define my musical taste and style.
So for Day 1, I decided to go with "Just Like Heaven" by The Cure. I don't think anyone can argue that The Cure is probably one of, if not, the top New Wave band on everyone's list. And "Just Like Heaven" happens to be my favorite Cure song of all time. But I've never actually played along to it on the drums. This was my first time. It took me 4 takes to get one I was happy with and I didn't have to rehearse it. That's how well I know the song LOL.
