OMD WEEK Day 7: "Forever Live & Die" Drum Cover & Karaoke

Welcome to Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark Week or OMD Week for short! OMD is my all-time favorite band from the 80s. I absolutely love all aspects of their songwriting and artistry. They mix acoustic and electric instruments brilliantly. They mix uplifting and melancholic themes perfectly. They embody everything about the decade so well, from fashion to musicality to culture, OMD really captured what it was like to live in the 80s.

While their megahit "If You Leave" is definitely my favorite from them (you can see my cover of that song here), they have so many other great hits as well as amazing B-Sides, and I will try to cover some of my favorites this week.

Here we are, the last day of OMD Week! Thank you for tuning in and checking out my drumming and singing along to my favorite 80s New Wave band, OMD!

"Forever Live and Die" is off their album, The Pacific Age, which was sort of an experiment away from a lot of their synth-sounding, melodramatic 80s New Wave style, and more into a sort of blues/mid-century vibe with more acoustic instruments and a rougher, more raw sound.

It is definitely different, especially the lyrical themes, but not so different that there isn't still a main OMD resemblance to their sound which is mainly driven by the two vocalists.

In any case, I decided to do this one because it has a more interesting drum rhythm, using a 16th note hi-hat triplet shuffle feel that's somewhat difficult, at least for me, to play consistently. I also love the vocal harmonies throughout the chorus. But for some reason, they sound really good through headphones but not so much through a speaker or phone. But that is the ongoing conundrum of a mixer. C'est la vie!

I hope you have enjoyed this one and OMD Week as a whole! Thank you so much for supporting my time-consuming hobby! Until the next one, cheers!
