This is the third of three all-instrument covers I am doing for my wife's 40th birthday week. I chose these three because they are some of her favorite songs from the 90s and I can play the other instruments well enough for me to record some decent takes. I hope she likes them!
I remember where I was when I first heard "Yellow" by Coldplay. I was in a bar in Burbank, CA called the Blue Room with a few buddies of mine, back in my drinking days. We'd go there almost every Friday or Saturday and just hang out, drink beer, and listen to music. So when this song popped up on the speakers, it stood out to me. Everything from the guitar intro to the rocking drums to Chris Martin's unique and post-grunge voice.
I instantly became a fan, and for the next few albums, I enjoyed their music. Then they sort of molded themselves into U2.0 with the activism and dating other celebs and the music started to suffer because of all the outside noise.
But there is no denying that their early stuff is as good as it gets. They were the perfect follow-up to Radiohead and a great bridge to Muse. Here is my full-instrument cover of a song that takes me back! I hope you enjoy it!!!
